Public Meetings for a New Route in Cameron County

We are very excited to be working with several project partners, including Texas State Technical College, the University of Texas-Brownsville, Cameron County, United Way, the City of Los Fresnos, Los Fresnos CISD, Cameron County, Workforce Solutions, and the Harlingen-San Benito MPO to develop a new route connecting TSTC, downtown Harlingen, downtown San Benito, Los Fresnos, downtown Brownsville, and UTB. The proposed route, tentatively called 'Route 45' would begin service on January 2, 2012. This week, we are holding a series of public meetings at TSTC, San Benito, UTB, and Los Fresnos to gather public input on this project. We encourage any members of the interested public to attend. You can find out more information on dates, times, and locations here and here.

Bike Rodeo

Valley Metro was pleased to participate in last Saturday's Bike Rodeo in Edinburg. The City of Edinburg, along with biking organizations, bike enthusiasts, and the Hidalgo County MPO, sponsored the event to promote bicycle safety and cycling awareness. One of Valley Metro's buses, wrapped in a cool bicycle-theme and promoting Edinburg's safe passing ordinance, was at the event (the wrap was designed and sponsored by the MPO). All of Valley Metro's new buses feature bike racks. As a long term objective, Valley Metro's capital projects will include the promotion of bicycles as a key component. We thank the City, the MPO, and the local bike groups for inviting us to attend.

New Service is Here

Our new service improvements have started as of Monday. New urban routes in Hidalgo County have been re-aligned to reach work and work-related locations much easier. Service times have been extended each day and we now operate on Saturday. If you haven't tried using the bus before, now is the time. Until December 31, 2011, trips on Routes 10, 13, 20, 30, and 31 are absolutely FREE. As always, we welcome your comments. Please let us know how we're doing by dropping us a line at ValleyMetroRGV@gmail.com or look for us on Facebook.
